Behind the Scenes (stylized as Behind the scenes) is the second chapter of There Is No Game: Wrong Dimension.

The thumbnail of the chapter has Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson on one side, and the interactions icons (the Fist, Tongue, and Eyeball) on the other.

Plot[]

The user and Game get stuck inside a dimension where it looks like there's an old TV that has an unplugged video input. When the user plugs the input, it is revealed that the TV is showing a point and click game that has Mr. Holmes and Mr. Watson as the main characters. The user is required to go through the puzzles inside the game. Eventually, the user uses a penny to unscrew the back of the TV, which lets them see behind the scenes of the game. Part of the story takes place in Mr. Wilhelm's home. Wilhelm is oddly glitchy, and once the user makes the moon full, adds snow, and a cherry on him, he explodes and Mr. Glitch appears. When the user does so, it is revealed that Mr. Glitch has an evil plan, but because Mr. Glitch's plan explanation was interrupted, the plan is unknown. After Mr. Glitch escapes, Holmes and Watson get stuck in a sign hanging on a floating wall. The user and Game help them and escape that dimension. After escaping the dimension, the user and Game end up in another game dimension called Legend Of The Secret and it leads to the next chapter, The Good, the Bad, and the Princess.

Quotes[]

  • Game: And the award for best unscrewer of the year goes to... the user!
  • Watson: And a good slap in the face.
  • Game: I... I'm going to be sick...
    • Game: Ha, no. I can't. I'm a program.
  • Game: No?! TV snow!

Trivia[]

  • "Behind the Scenes" is a term that normally refers to the production of a form of art (namely theatre where all of the cast and crew literally work behind the curtain of a scene). That fits the theme of this chapter's puzzles, where you must look behind and deconstruct the scenes of the Mystery Game.

Cultural References[]

  • The Mystery Game this chapter is centered around is based on the point-and-click games by LucusArts, most resembling Day of the Tentacle.
  • When complaining about using the Red H to fix the rail, Game complains that it makes as much sense as "using a monkey to work a hydraulic pump". This is a direct reference to an infamous puzzle in Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge where the player has to do just that (a pun on the term "monkey wrench"), which has since become a symbol for outlandish and nonsensical solutions in puzzle games.
  • When first using the Telettrophone, Game mentions its rotary dial as resembling a "Myst" puzzle, referencing the puzzle game of the same name, which came out just before dial keypads were being phased in.
  • Miss Voodoo's number has the same number of the Ghostbusters.
